Duties and Responsibilities: Sports medicine therapists are physical therapist who specializes in the treatment and rehabilitation of sport and athletic injuries. They diagnose and treat athletes and other active people suffering from a sports-related injury or illness.
Salary: $82,180 for all physical therapists and Median salary (2014): $162,778 for sports medicine physicians.
Education: After obtaining a bachelor’s degree with a strong pre-medical curriculum, you must attend an accredited medical school to earn a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.). And, at least a Master’s degree in sports medicine, physical therapy, or athletic training. Training required 2- to 7-year residency followed by 1- to 2-years fellowship in sports medicine.
Demand for this profession: Projected Job Growth (2012-2022) 36% for all physical therapists and 18% for all physicians and surgeons.
Reflection: I would like to be a sport medicine therapists because I could learn how to help myself because I too am an athlete also help others in need of help with their injuries
