What is Memorial day ?
A holiday that honors men and women who died while serving over the U.S military, usually known as Decoration Day, originated in the years following the civil war and became an official federal holiday in 1971.
What is the purpose of Memorial Day?
Honor the men and women that died serving our country in the U.S military.
When is it?
On May 5, 1868, General John A. Logan, leader of an organization for Northern Civil War veterans, called for a nationwide day of remembrance later that month. “The 30th of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village and hamlet churchyard in the land,” he proclaimed. The date of Decoration Day, as he called it, was chosen because it wasn’t the anniversary of any particular battle.
What are a few ways to show honor and respect on memorial day?
Cities and towns across the United States host Memorial Day parades each year, often incorporating military personnel and members of veterans’ organizations. Some of the largest parades take place in Chicago, New York and Washington, D.C. Americans also observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries and memorials. On a less somber note, many people throw parties and barbecues on the holiday, perhaps because it unofficially marks the beginning of summer.
What are a few things you will do on memorial day to show your honor and respect?
I will be going camping during memorial day weekend and spend it with my friends. I’m going to watch movies and barbeque in the cold mountains.

“If I’ve got correct goals, and if I keep on pursuing them the best way I know how, everything else falls into line. If I do the right thing right, I’m going to succeed.”
Dan Dierdorf

Dan believes that is he does the right thing as hard as he can and tries his best no matter what he will overcome and succeed. He also says that if you choose the wrong and not try at anything will become disappointed with the results and not succeed in life. If you choose the right you will succeed and go into the right place/path. If you choose the wrong and go into the wrong pathway/place you will not become successful and will choose the wrong all your life. If you set up goals that are correct you are most likely to succeed ten if you set up goals that are incorrect in life. You always have to choose the right no matter what because choosing the right will lead you to success. His correct goals will lead him into the correct path and only good things will happen to him. He teaches us to put all our efforts into our goals because if you do you will end up reaching for them. If you believe in yourself you will bring success into you your life. So, don’t choose the wrong, always choose the right for a successful life and pathway.

“The reward for doing right is mostly an internal phenomenon: self- respect, dignity (self-worth), integrity, and self-esteem”.--Laura Schlessinger

This means that If you do what is right you will get in return joy and integrity. You will receive many more. If you decide to choose the wrong then you might get in return shame, guilt, etc. Mostly all the reward you get by doing what is right is going to be what you feel within which will be an internal phenomenon. For example, if I see that an elderly lady dropped something valuable I would pick it up and with no thought about it I will give it to her. I would choose the right. I will feel inside happy, proud of myself, I would be full of self-worth and etc. that's why if you choose the right and be a ctr person you will have joy in life. If you are a person who chooses the wrong then you will get bad things in return like guilt.

“You Knew what I was when you picked me”

This is a story about a Indian youth which, climbed a mountain to reach the top. And in the top he became free. In a sense he was joyful. Until he heard a rattle. This rattle was coming from a snake, and this snake asked the Indian Youth, “ I am dying up here can you help me down so i can get warm, and eat.” The Indian youth was very surprised because the snake could kill him. And the snake persuade him saying, “ I’ll treat you special and i won't hurt you, please take me down to the valley.” As the Indian youth took him down, and wrap him in his shirt, he placed him down. As he said thank you and bit him. Then the snake said “You knew what i was when you picked me up”! This is metaphorically speaking that when somebody offers you something bad and keeps telling you that there is no harm, you got to always choose the right for you and doesn't harm you.  Other examples would be alcohol, drugs, stealing, etc etc. Also the snake represents evil trying to get you into bad things, and you have to stand your ground and say no.

“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right Thing”
Theodore Roosevelt

This is a great quote because what Teddy Roosevelt is saying that the only thing you should think of when making a decision is seeing if you made the right choice. Like take for example if you were to go to a store and buy a dress or top it is your decision to choose from the tops that reveal a lot or the ones that don’t reveal too much but just enough for you to feel comfortable in? You’re more likely going to have to make a decision and take a moment to think which one would be the most appropriate to wear, and that's where Teddy Roosevelt’s quote comes in because you need to [pick which one is best and the one that is the right thing (the shirt that is revealing enough to make people feel comfortable

“Nothing is ever gained in doing what’s wrong”
Wilford Woodruff
This statement is really true, like what are you going to get out of doing the wrong. You don't really get anything. The only thing you most likely to get are bad repercussions. It also depends on what you did and how severe you damaged people. But when you choose the right you gain something. You might gain there trust, or you might gaine a reward. You can also gain a good compliment. This is why i think this quote is so true because you really don't gain anything when you do something bad. So remember it best to choose the right, and get a good consequence rather than to get a bad repercussion. This statement really is powerful. And it's best to gain something good than something bad.

“I have been asked what I mean by ‘word of honor.’ I will tell you: Place me behind prison walls- walls of stone ever so high, ever do thick, reaching ever so far into the ground- there is a possibility that in some way or another I might be able to escape; but stand me on the floor and draw a chalk line around me and have me give my word of honor never to cross it. Can I get out of that circle? No, never! I’d die first.”
Karl G. Maeser
This is a good quote because it basically tells us as people that we shouldn't be breaking our word
because if you do you are considered dirty and a CTW person. You shouldn’t give your word on something if you know that you will not follow through with it. Like if you give your word to give up hot cheetos because you want to have a stable diet and maintain a healthy body and then the next day eat like 5 bags of hot cheetos and say ‘No I’m going to start my word until next week’ and so the next week comes and you keep on breaking it. This shows that you cannot be trusted with your word because you break it or you get distracted easily. Just like with the example of the hot cheeto, you forget and you seem to use that as an excuse to continue to not go on your word. Your word of honor can determine if you are either trustworthy or not.
